From the breathtaking gorges to the serene views of Cayuga Lake, I absolutely love being an Ithaca Wedding Photographer. I want to share with you a little bit about what I think is most important when looking for a wedding photographer in Ithaca NY, and some of the reasons why I'll never get enough of photographing weddings there.
Choosing an Ithaca Wedding Photographer
Ithaca wedding venues have big personalities, so it’s important that you choose a wedding photographer who knows how to embrace that. Someone who knows how to make each unique venue and the couple who is getting married there shine in photos. A good way to test this is by taking a peek at the photographer’s Instagram account. Does it look like a sea of wedding day sameness, or do the colors and personality of each wedding shine through? I believe that no two weddings of mine should look the same because I’m all about embracing your personalities and what your day and your venue actually looked like with no heavy editing or color changing. If you'd like some examples, you can view my wedding photography portfolio here.
If you're planning a wedding in Ithaca, NY and are dreaming about what the day could look like, here are some things to consider, including what I love the most about being an Ithaca, NY wedding photographer:
Unique Ithaca Wedding Venues
One of the things Ithaca is well known for is its eclectic arts scene, and I love how that has even transferred through to Ithaca’s unique wedding venues. There are no cookie-cutter venues in Ithaca. From the art nouveau style of New Park Event Venue and Suites, to the earthy charm of Ithaca’s Farmers Market and the stunning Architecture of Cornell University, Ithaca’s wedding venues are absolutely full of big personality. With such stylized venues, couples can pick which one aligns with them the most and then add little touches and details ensuring that their wedding becomes a true reflection of their individuality.
Unique Ithaca wedding venues are another reason why finding an Ithaca Wedding Photographer who captures true-to-life color is so important. You want to make sure you find someone who captures the beauty of what it really feels like to be there, not a stylized version that makes every venue look the same.
Getting Ready Locations in Ithaca
As a wedding photographer, one of the trickiest parts of the “getting ready” part of the day, is that usually it occurs in cramped, lifeless, hotel rooms, but in Ithaca, there is no shortage of unique inns and homes to rent that are full of natural light and character (and are perfect for getting ready before your wedding). Check out the William Henry Miller Inn, the spacious and private Mansion at Fountain Place, or the stunning and big enough for your whole wedding party Argos Inn (pictured below.)
Fantastic Flowers
Some of my favorite florists to work with are located in the Ithaca area, and I've noticed, when photographing weddings in Ithaca, it seems to be the couples getting married there that are the least afraid of color (my favorite!). I also think that there's no better way to weave your color palette throughout all your wedding photos than with your bouquets/boutonnieres and with a bright, true-to-life editing style, the natural colors and textures of these gorgeous Ithaca florist's bouquets and arrangements really shine.
Stunning Landscapes
No matter where you’re getting married in Ithaca, there’s sure to be a park nearby if you want to stop by and take advantage of the incredible natural beauty of the area in your wedding portraits. I mean, Ithaca IS gorges after all. Some of my favorite places you could stop for portraits on your wedding day are the Taughannock Falls overlook, if you love the water you could check out North Point at Taughannock Falls State Park for some beautiful lakeside photos, or photos in the gorge at Robert Treman State Park.
Unforgettable Food
Another thing I love about weddings in Ithaca is all the amazing catering options (did I mention I'm a foodie?). If you're looking for something unique, Ba-Li Cravings has delicious Mediterranean cuisine and some seriously awesome desserts. For a seamless experience, Serendipity Full Service Catering not only crafts mouthwatering menus but also provides top-notch full bar services, and if you're looking for farm-to-table dining, Van Noble Farm is one of many awesome farm fresh caterers in the Ithaca area, promising an incredible wedding day meal sourced directly from local fields. With Ithaca's eclectic wedding catering options, you and your guests will experience a delicious reflection of your tastes and style.
