Robert Treman State Park is the perfect place for a colorful, quirky Ithaca wedding.
Olivia got ready in an Airbnb right next to the park’s main entrance (talk about convenient) and not only was there a beautiful space for her to get ready in, but the property had a lot of pretty areas outdoors for photos of her with her side of the wedding party.
They held their ceremony at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Ithaca,NY and it was SO beautiful. I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever seen a church with so much natural light. The church even has two separate closed off rooms on either side of the entrance so the couple has a place to hide away if they’re doing a traditional aisle reveal and don’t want to see each other before the ceremony.
After the ceremony we headed to Robert Treman State Park. Olivia and Shane had their reception in the park's North Shelter, located near the main entrance of the park, but we started out with portraits at the North entrance in the gorge.
Ithaca Wedding Photographers guide to Robert Treman State Park
If you’re photographing a wedding at Robert Treman State Park, the North entrance is only about a 10-minute drive from the North Shelter, so it's pretty easy to schedule time for portraits there. It can be a little tricky to find though, so you'll want to make sure that everyone that needs to meet there has the exact address of the parking lot : 129 Upper Park Rd, Newfield, NY 14867. There are beautiful paths through the woods and gorge (called Enfield Glen), so couples get that adventure elopement feel while still being able to invite all their family and friends to their reception at one of the Pavilions.
The north entrance is a stunning location for portraits, just be aware that it’s also a very popular scenic trail, so be prepared to stop and wait for hikers to pass by. You’ll want to schedule plenty of time for portraits here just in case it’s busy (and it probably will be!). If you want to spend even more time here, I definitely recommend choosing to do a first look before the ceremony.
Robert Treman North Pavilion
Robert H. Treman State Park has three pavilions available for rent can accommodate 34 to 197 guests (North Pavilion pictured here). The North Pavilion has beautiful wood arches built against the white walls, and I absolutely loved the circular windows at either end. Olivia and Shane chose a bright, saturated color palette and it worked so beautifully with the space. The flowers, from Plenty of Posys, looked like they had been scooped up straight out of a field of wildflowers, and they paired perfectly with the pavilion's bright green chairs. Olivia studies bees and Shane is a pilot in the airforce, so I also absolutely loved all the little bee and airplane touches seen all over the reception (did you see that their placecards are little paper airplanes?). Finally, the bunting that was strung back and forth along the ceiling was made by Olivia's grandmother and it was the perfect, quirky finishing touch that really pulled the whole reception together.
And finally, the food. The North shelter doesn't have a kitchen, but I loved Olivia and Shane's catering solution - a food truck! Toss & Fire served some (seriously amazing) specialty wood-fired pizza out of their food truck along with salad and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus.
If colorful, quirky, and outdoorsy is your thing, Robert H. Treman State park is SUCH a cute reception space (with gorgeous locations for portraits close by) and I really can't recommend it enough.
