This Buttermilk Falls Proposal in Ithaca, NY was too cute! We started early in the morning because as any Ithaca NY photographer will tell you, Buttermilk Falls gets pretty crowded during the day. Proposal sessions are great because you get to capture that special moment your partner said yes and also have a little engagement session. It's a win-win!
Two Options for Planning Your Surprise Proposal:
- The first, and I would argue the best way, would be to have your partner come to the session thinking it's just a regular couples session. How exactly the actual proposal goes down is something we can plan for together. This is my favorite way because it can't go wrong. The worst that can happen is your partner is a little suspicious BUT they also won't be mad at you because they unknowingly wore sweatpants to a photoshoot.
- The second and riskier option is I hide and capture the proposal in secret. This way can be more of a surprise if you think your partner might be suspicious, but if you do go this way we run the risk of them seeing me or if we're in a public place, someone else moving between you and my camera at the last minute. If you do decide to go this way we'll plan exactly where and when the proposal will happen so that I can make sure I'm hidden and ready to go! Also, please please please make sure your partner is dressed in something they actually want to be photographed in (you'll thank me later!)
While one method might be a little easier, there is no right or wrong way to propose. It's going to be beautiful no matter what, and what's most important is that you do what feels right for you as a couple.
